Do you know how Marinara Pizza got its name?

The mariners

Marinara pizza got its name because it was a favorite among fishermen (mariners), who would take it on board to eat during their workdays, folded over upon itself to make it easily transportable.

Nowadays we think o “marinara” as referring to an iconic red sauce, but in fact, in its early days the marinara pizza was just topped with garlic, oil and oregano.
